Steinway (spr. -weh), ursprünglich Steinweg, Klavierbauerfamilie in Neuyork (Firma: S. and Sons). Der Begründer der Firma, Heinrich (Henry) Engelhard S., geb. 15. Febr. 1797 in Wolfshagen im Harz, errichtete 1825 in Seesen am Harz eine Orgelbauanstalt und baute daselbst seit 1835 auch Klaviere; 1853 gründete er in Neuyork ein neues Geschäft, zu welchem Filialen in London (1875) und Hamburg (1880) hinzukamen; gest. 7. Febr. 1871.
